Designing What Comes Next

A year ago this week, SOLO was featured in the popular Recomendo newsletter, and over the holiday weekend nearly a thousand of you discovered this newsletter. If you joined back then, thank you.

Since then, SOLO has delivered weekly insights on how solopreneurs can stand out — using smart systems, sharp visuals, and now, AI as a creative ally. And if you’ve been here a while, you know I don’t do fluff.

We’ve explored:

  • Visual tools like 2x2s, brand tiers, and authority frameworks
  • Systems to increase your visibility without burning out
  • Design strategies to clarify your message, your offers, and your voice

But lately, I’ve been asking: what’s next?

The expectation that SOLO deliver a visual masterclass every week has been both a gift and a weight. And after 63 issues — including 19 deep-dive frameworks in the Visual Assembly series — I’m ready to rework what this newsletter can be.

Not to make it thin. But to make it lighter, livelier, and more sustainable — for both of us.

Here’s what won’t change:
SOLO will still bring you smart insights on visibility, design thinking, and visual strategy — plus new tools like AI that are pushing the edge of what solopreneurs can do on their own.

But the format will evolve.
I’m looking to mix in new rhythms — shorter riffs, occasional behind-the-scenes notes, personal stories, and informal ideas that invite reflection or experimentation

This is your early heads-up. I’ll share more soon.

For now, I’d love to know:

What would you like to see more of in SOLO?
Just hit reply and tell me — even one word is helpful. Your feedback will help shape what comes next, and I’d be very grateful.

Here are a few ideas to get you thinking:

  • Visual breakdowns (like the 2x2s or offer tiers)
  • Smart systems to make content + visibility easier
  • AI prompts + tools that actually feel useful
  • Strategic thinking for solopreneurs
  • Something else you need right now?

Thanks again for being here. Whether you joined last week, last year, or have been here from the beginning — I appreciate you being along for the journey.

Fresh Finds for Creative Minds

Here are three gems this week from around the Web for visual thinkers and solopreneurs:

🎧 Audio in, text out. No login, no fuss.
Need a quick transcript of a podcast, Zoom call, or audio recording? Restream’s free tool converts audio to text right in your browser. No downloads, no account, no ads. Just upload, transcribe, and go — then your data’s wiped. Fast, clean, and private.

📌 10 post types, endless content ideas
If you ever feel stuck on what to post, this one’s a keeper. Neal O’Grady breaks down 10 essential post types with examples — what they’re for, how they work, and how to write them. Plus, he's put it all into a clear visual cheat sheet. Think: infographic meets mini content course.

🤖 Make AI work 10x harder (by making it jealous)
There’s a sneaky-smart way to get better results from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and friends — it’s called AI Rivalry. By framing your prompts to mention other AIs, you trigger a faux rivalry and a built-in push to perform better. It’s weirdly effective.

Hey, Reader — Most of my stress last week came from one thing: working at the wrong pace. Have you noticed that feeling too? Pushing forward, but not sure why? When this happens, I’ve learned to stop asking what I need to do next. The better question is: What pace am I working at right now, and who chose it? Most solopreneurs never consciously choose a pace. We inherit one, often from client expectations or inboxes that never empty. Other cues also come from algorithms that reward constant...

Hey, Reader — The new year always brings big energy. But this time, I’m hearing something quieter: fatigue. Not burnout exactly, just the weight of staying “on” all the time. Like there’s always something to respond to, keep up with, or post to stay visible. None of these activities is wrong. But they add up. Ambition carries a cost, not just in effort but in attention. And when so much of that attention goes to anticipating a response, clarity doesn’t come from finding better answers. It...

Hey, Reader — This is one of those weeks that feels like a pause. The holidays are fading. The new year is at hand, but real momentum hasn’t kicked in yet. There’s less noise than usual, and that quiet can feel both calming and uncertain. If you’re not feeling ambitious, that’s okay. What this moment asks for is something simpler: clarity. A way to see what matters before everything speeds up again. So instead of talking about goals or resolutions, I want to offer something smaller and more...
